A+ Attitude Review

Book Review:

My 8 year old daughter is discovering the world of chapter books. So when I saw this series by Stephanie Perry Moore geared for girls age 7-9, I jumped at the chance to check it out with my daughter. Morgan Love is a 2nd grader with some serious attitude problems. Everything in her life has been thrown out of wack. A military dad leaving on a long deployment, her mom in the hospital with a baby, a new stepdad, and a new school. Morgan’s year is not starting out good.

Morgan Love Series: A+ Attitude

The Morgan Love Series is a chapter book series written for girls, 7 – 9 years old. The series provides moral lessons that will aid in character development. It will also help young girls develop their vocabulary, english and math skills as they read through the stories and complete the entertaining and educational exercises provided at the end of each chapter and in the back of the book.

There are several great features about A+ Attitude (Morgan Love Series). Each chapter ends with a word search and a list of vocabulary words that have been used through out the chapter.

When Morgan’s dad leaves on deployment in the first chapter, he gives Morgan a journal for her to write all the words she is learning. A cute pink notebook with glitter sparkles (I know my daughter can relate to the thrill of a new sparkly notebook!) Throughout the book, the words to know are highlighted for easy reference.

At the end of each chapter, Morgan writes a letter to her Dad. You can trace her attitude change from a failing F to an A+ Attitude as the letter progress.

My only disappointment is that the book was not as entertaining as I had hoped. There are funny parts and my daughter and I did laugh at different times. But I was actually hoping to find a new series that would be as funny as some of the other classic chapter books that we already love, yet would help teach spiritual lessons. A+ Attitude deals with more complex issues such as divorce, step families, absent parents due to military deployments and navigating the murky areas of new schools and friends.
