The Deeper Life Review

Book Review:

I am a huge fan of anything written by A.W. Tozer. God blessed him with an immense amount of biblical wisdom and zeal.

This particular book is a collection of articles he wrote for Moody Monthly magazine in 1950 along with other articles from Christian Life and Alliance Witness. The Deeper Life is the second book in a series from Tozer that ultimately addresses how to live a life deep in the Holy Spirit and daily experiencing the truth of God. The first book in the series is Tozer's The Pursuit of God from 1948. The third book in the series is yet to be released: A More Perfect Faith. According to the introduction, The Pursuit of God provides devotionals with Bible reading and prayer while this second book addresses basic principles of spiritual maturity and the third upcoming book dives into homiletical sermons. Utilizing all three books together is meant to guide one from superficial christian living to deep experiential christian living.

The book is structured very simply with nine chapters, each detailing Tozer's articles regarding spiritual maturity. Tozer's writing style is simple yet profound and convicting yet gracious. He speaks directly from his own experience with Christ which makes his teachings so powerful. He allows us to see that a deep relationship with Christ is good, hard work but very attainable.

Everyone, believer and non-believer, can learn so much from reading Tozer's writings.

I received a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review.
