When Faith is Forbidden Review

Book Review:

I have never been one for biographical type books but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to read this book. Although America has long been the land of the freedoms that almost no other country has ever experienced, we are unfortunately taking a very short path to future persecution. I thought this book is extremely timely for believing Americans to fully understand the current persecution around the world and what we will undoubtedly be facing ourselves in the near future.

The book is structured with 40 days of true life stories detailing intense persecution of believers all around the world. Each day begins with a Scripture verse then jumps right into the persecution story. It provides the location and the year of the described persecution. I appreciate this as it puts a bit more context and understanding to the story. Especially knowing that the persecution is happening now and not a historical story from decades ago.

Each day concludes with the following:

- For Reflection: questions to help reflect on the story

- Prayer

- For Your Journal: space to record your thoughts

- From My Journal: a brief entry from the author's own journal of life experiences

Nettleton also includes a Praying for Persecuted Christians blurb throughout the book. These blurbs provide ways to pray for persecuted Christians around the world. Whether these Christians have a background in Islam or Buddhism or Hinduism or another, they all have very unique obstacles and unique opportunities in sharing the gospel with others. We may not have the means to serve them in a face to face capacity but we do have the most direct service opportunity: prayer.

This is a very powerful and convicting book. All believers should read this book to grasp the reality of persecution around the world and understand their role in it. All non-believers should also read this book in order to grasp the reality of persecution around the world. They don't have to believe in Jesus to be convicted by the persecution of Christians and to take action.

I received a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review.
