Going into Bible college, I truly had no idea how much writing went into being in ministry. Even by the time I graduated, I don’t think I truly appreciated how much of ministry is writing. Now, two years removed from graduating, I am realizing that writing is more important than ever, and I am not even in a ministry position yet! But that is where this book comes in.
It isn’t just that writing is important though. This book really helped me nail something down that I had not looked at as much as I should have: my audience. Anyone can write a book, sermon, or blog post. But unless they know their audience, it won’t have a great impact. This book really helped me appreciate just how important understanding my audience is.
O’Brien also presented several great exercises throughout the book ranging from what I actually should be writing about to who my ideal reader is to actually writing a book or other project. These exercises helped me start projects that have been waiting for years. They may not be finished for a while still, but Writing for Life & Ministry really propelled me to get started.
I am giving 5 stars out of 5 for a simple book that compels its readers to not just read, but become the writers that they desire to be.
